Abstract | Tested a path model of perceived elder caregiver burden among 150 South Asian caregivers (mean age 40.9 yrs). The model specified the impact of mental health problems of the caregiver on perceived caregiver burden. The Ss were interviewed by telephone. A preliminary causal model was used to estimate the effects of the hypothesized determinants on perceived caregiver burden. The results indicate that having young children in the household, with long working hours of the spouse of the caregiver and behavior problems of the elderly, affected the perceived burden. Guidelines for practitioners are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved). |
